U 18AA news

Just a couple of things Parents

First of all there will be allowed 1 parent per player to attend Sundays game at the Cari. Rock paper Scissors I guess?? I know who would be going in My house!!! There will be more details on how this will work  on the web site Sunday.

Will everyone please send thier contact info ( Names of all parents, Phone numbers and e mails ) to Jackie Wheatley our manager for the year. Her e mail is jwheat@eastlink.ca  thank you.

Our league meeting is this Thursday coming and after we get some information from that we will have some sort of parents meeting to lay out the year ahead with a budget, rules and what is expected of everyone.

I will be having a players meeting as well at some point in the next week to do the same with the boys.

We always purchase home and away socks for the boys so don't go out and buy and socks. We also thought we might get masks with our logo on them as well being as we all have to wear them.

All upcoming ice times and events will be on the team calander from here on out so when I know whats going on I'll post it there then everyone will know.

The jerseys will be given out Sunday. They are only two years old so please take care of them. Wash them regularly and try not to dry them with too much heat and melt the numbers.

Thats all for know and if anyone has any questions contact me any time. My contact info is under the staff tab. PLEASE remember to get your contact info to Jackie.

Thanks

David

Thanks again parents for your patience and trust. We have a great group of 23 youn men here to pick from and this job is never an easy one or one I enjoy. Can't wait to see you all back in the rink this has been to strangest experience in all my years of coaching. I know your going to find this hard to believe but I miss having you all watching over us.

If any one has any questions please don't hesitate to ask. My contact info is on the web site under the staff tab.

Remember going forward folks if you see someone volunterring at the rink or the rink staff thank them. People have been working very hard giving up thier own time to make up contact tracing lists, Hall and dressing room monitors and making this return to hockey work. Tryouts this year were probabley at least 3 to 4 times as much work as in the past. So be kind and say thank you. I know all the kids are enjoying being back at the rink and soon you will too.

Thank

David

U18AA tryouts

Here is some Information about th U18AA tryouts for Parents and Players. Due to Covid we are still not allowed spectators in the rink and  us coaches and minor hockey officials feel for all of you. We thank you for your trust and  patiience and assure you everyone is working hard on trying to make this happen soon. It is also important for all of us to fallow the rules the best we can so we can keep playing the game we love. Many places do not have this pleasure right now even in Atlantic Canada. So please be patient and be kind.

1. If your already signed up and wish to attend tryouts that is great please come with the same group as you did for conditioning.

2.If you have signed up and wish not to try out thats fine to. If you can let the coordinator no by sending her an e mail  that would be great so we can keep the groups balanced. You can find that information on the coordinators page. Good luck with your season and your next ice time will be posted on the coordinators page the end of next week.

3. If you havent signed up please go to the coordinators page to find out details on how to sign up. This is important for covid tracing.

Here is the tryout process for this year.

Sunday 7:10 group 1 (you can find the groups on the coordinators page)

Sunday 8:20 group 2

We will cut it down to 33 players or less after these sessions

Monday 8:00-9:00 Intersquad game (will be more cuts after this session)

Wednesday 8:30-9:30 Practice

Thursday 8:00-9:30  Practice as of now and team will be picked after this session

All the cuts will be made by posting players going on to the next session on the this page.

Before trying out for U18AA here are some things to consider and things we expext from players and parents. We will be asking that the young men that are selected to this team are dedicated and make all ice times practices and games. I realize some have part time jobs and other intrests but expext them to work around the teams schedule. We practice once a week (usually monday in the past) . Our home games have been on Thursdays (In the past) and usually 1 away game. We always went in 4 tournaments but that will probable not happen but may look for something to do to take the place of them. The cost to play on this team in the past was $580.00. This figure will not be as high but we will still need money to run the team with rep fees, socks, pucks, pictures, and other expenses. I'm just guessing it might be in the $400.00 range. These are new times so we are all still trying to figure stuff out. We are all hoping for a full season but if it does shut down or we have surplus at the end it all goes back to the people who paid it as we are not in this to make money but just to run the team. There will be a set of rules to fallow on this team and we hope for the parents support to make everything run smooth.

In picking this team it is definitly not my favorite job. I know many of you with young men trying out which makes it that much harder. I traditionally have a hard working team . My goal is to have a group of young men that work hard both in practice and games. A group that come together and get along on and off the ice. Don't have to be best friends but are all good team mates. Want them to improve, listen to coaches, compete to thier best every night, learn respect and most importantly have fun. This is our (the coaches) fun too and suposed to be the parents fun as well. My final decisions are not always based on skill it takes many different things to make up a good team. 5-6 months is a long time to be a team and thier will be highs and lows so hold on because here we go and I hope everyone can respect the though decisions we have to make in the coming week. All the best to all in the coming week and for the upcoming season. I hope we can get a full season in this year.

Thanks

David, Kenneth and Matt

Note from David

Just a note for the young men that are still trying out with the Matrix U18 AAA team. Focus on that team and do not worry about coming out for conditioning camps with the AA team this week. I have spoke with the AAA coach and he should have his team finilized before we start our AA tryouts. Good luck to all who are still trying for a spot on the AAA team.

Thanks

David

Welcome Back

Hello all U 18 Players and Parents. Yes I'm back again for the 7th season with this age group. Unfortunatly my two side kicks have decided to take a year off and will be dearly missed. I am excited to add a long time friend to help me out this year. Kenneth MacFadyen and I have coached together in Novice and Atom years ago when our kids were small and have been friends ever since. He has coached in his youger teen years and has coached his kids along the way up in minor hockey in different divisions with his last stint being in Midget AA the year before I took over. We are both looking forward to this new indever together in what will defenitly be a different season to say the least with Covid 19. Hopefully all goes well and we can all enjoy the game we love without it being too different.

We would like any one who is planning on playing U 18 at either the A or AA leval to come out for the two conditioning camps. It is to get everyone back on the ice with some skating and drills for every leval. We will then go into tryout mode where this will be for those wanting to compete for spots on the U18AA team. We are looking forward to meeting the new kids coming from bantam and seeing those that we already know from other years.

I will post more about tryouts next week and how that will work. For all info on sessions and sigh ups for both tryouts and conditioning and what you must do to attend please go to the coordinators page for U18. Last day for sign up is today so check it out. Remember we are living in a different time and all rules must be fallowed.

Thanks for now and see you on the ice

David and Kenneth
