Welcome back to all U18 Players and Parents. My name is David Lank and I am pleased to be back along with Kenneth Macfayden and Carter MacFayden as Coachs of the U 18 AA team.  We are unfortunate that Matt Lank will be taking the year off but are excited to add Blake Crozier as our Goalie Coach.  We are all looking forward to another season behind the bench meeting another group of young men and thier parents.

We invite all U18 players to come out to conditiong camps even if they are not tring out. It gives everyone a chance to get on the ice before regular hockey starts. The cost is $10 a session.

Here are a few things to consider as we head into tryouts.  We will be asking that  the young men that make the team are dedicated to the team and make all ice times. We know that some have part time jobs and other intrests but expect them to work around the teams schedule and make all games and practices. We practice once a week on Mondays at 8:40pm- 9:40 at the APM. Our home games are Thursdays at 7:30pm at the APM and we usually have one away game a week. Games are a hour and half in length.  We normally go in 4 or 5 tournaments throughout the year and they will be mapped out at the parents meeting after the team is picked. One of these tournaments will be an off Island one. The cost to play on the team will run around $600 to cover the costs of tournaments, socks, pucks, first aid supplies, team pictures and team events. There will be a set of rules for players to fallow and we hope we can count on the parents suport.

Picking the team is definitly not my favorite part of the job. I know many of you parents and it is always hard to let kids go. With kids playing U18 for three years it changes the dynamics of where kids end up and sometimes kids end up playing A hockey when traditionally they have always played AA. There is opportunity to be an AP player and playing A can help kids developement if approached in a positive way. I traditionally have a hard working team. My goal is to have a hard working team that works hard in both practices and games. A group that comes together and gets along on and off the ice. They don't have to be best friends but have to be good team mates. We want them to improve as individuals and as a team, listen to coaches, compete to the best of thier ability every night, be respectfull to all and most of all have fun. This is our (the coaches ) fun too and is suposed to be fun for the parents as well. Our final decisions are not always based skill as it takes a lot of different things to make up a good team. 5 or 6 months is a long time to be together as a team of parents and players and there will be many highs and lows so hold on tight because here we go. I hope you all can respect the though desisions we have to make in the next couple weeks. Good luck to all in try outs and the up coming season.
