If you were not at the APM Centre on this evening, you missed an exciting game to be sure. The hockey fans were treated to a very entertaining event as these 2 hometown rivals played their 3rd of 4 regular season matchups.

First Period: It took just over one minute for the hometeam Flames #3 to intercept a Flames #2 clearing attempt and convert it into the first goal of the game. The Flames #2 responded 40 seconds later when Ryan and Dakota pressured and ultimately setup Jacob who buried the loose puck for the equalizer. The Flames #3 scored again four minutes later. The Flames #2 responded about two-and-half minutes after that, when Ryan picked up a juicy rebound from Andrew's point shot and put it away before the defenders could get back into position.

Second Period: The Flames #3 scored two unanswered goals and the teams went into the third with a 4 - 2 score.

Third Period: The Flames #2 had no choice but to have an exceptional third period in order to pull out the win. Everyone came together and made it happen. Josh turned himself into a wall in front of the net. Alex, Andrew, Hunter and Zach held the opponents' blueline and the forwards got the goals. Ryan got two goals assisted by Jacob and Brandon and Jacob got one assisted by Zach to go up 5 - 4.

As the game was drawing to a close, the Flames #3 pressured for an equlaizer and eventually pulled their goalie in favor of the extra attacker. The Flames #2 missed by inches on a long shot at the open net and that caused an icing call and a faceoff in their own end. The Flames #2 gained control after the faceoff and Jordan connected with the second long shot attempt at the open net. The Flames #3 put their goalie back in position with only 35 seconds left in the game and Ryan skated straight to their net after the faceoff at centre ice. Brandon drew the defenders wide of the net and provided the sweet pass that Ryan converted into his 4th goal (and 5th point) of the night.

Peewee Team #2
2008 - 09 Flames Team #2
George Trainor Holiday Classic
Tournament Champions
The Flames played very hard during the George Trainor Holiday Classic and they were honored to play against the hometown Sherwood Sharp Shooters in the championship game. This was their second matchup of the tournament and Sherwood proved that they were not willing to give up the title without a battle.

During some pregame banter among the Flames' players, Danny MacKinnon and Jacob Stewart mused that Dan would score the Flames' first goal and Jacob would score the game winner.

It was late in the first period just as the Flames penalty ended that Jordan MacLennan gained control of the puck in his own end and he spotted Danny MacKinnon stepping onto the ice. Jordan forwarded the puck to Danny who jumped past the two Sherwood defenders and surprised their goalie with a quick wrist shot to score the first goal of the game.

The second goal of the game was scored at the middle of the second period when a Sherwood defender holding the Flames' blueline dumped the puck into a group of players in front of the Flames' net. Josh could not track the incoming puck through all the traffic and it rolled by him into his net. The teams went back to their dressing rooms for intermission with the game tied at one.

The third period was an exciting example of a hockey game as both teams pressured to score. About four minutes into the period, Jacob Stewart fought for the puck in the corner and brought it to the net where he faked a shot to the left and buried the puck in the open right side. Both teams continued to battle for another goal and the goalies shut the door on their efforts many times. Danny and Jacob's forerunner came to be reality as the Flames claimed the tournament championship with a 2 - 1 victory.

Tournament Game vs Sherwood #3 at CARI A Saturday, Dec 27 at 6:00PM
This was the most exciting game for the Flames so far this season. They spotted the Sherwood Snipers four goals by the middle of the second period before they started giving their loyal fans something to cheer about. The score was 4 - 3 for Sherwood after two periods and 7 - 6 for the Flames at the final buzzer. The whole team played hard and Jacob Stewart dominated the game, scoring three goals and assisting two others.

To add to the excitement of this matchup, Sherwood was never intimidated by the Flames' pressure as they scored their first go-ahead goal. Sherwood's response was to escalate the intensity of the game by scoring an equalizer in the middle of the third period but the Flames would not be denied and battled to earn another go-ahead goal. The goal deficit inspired Sherwood to press for another equalizer so the Flames responded with their seventh and game winning goal with just over two minutes left in the game.

Coach Main is pleased with the maturity displayed by his team as they battled from a four goal deficit to close out the match with a one goal victory and earn their second straight win in the George Trainor Holiday Classic.

League Game vs Sherwood #1 at CARI A Wednesday, December 17 at 6:30PM
Flames #2 burned the Sherwood Sharp Shooters in this fiercly battled game. The Flames scored one goal in the first and two in the second period. Josh and Ben split the goaltending duties and both made many great saves to share the shutout for the 3 - 0 game.

Coach Main is excited to watch his squad effortlessly transferring their team strategies that they have been working on in their training sessions into their real games:
- This game had numerous plays that started with beautiful passes at both ends of the rink and created many scoring opportunities.
- The defense were automatically backing each other up whenever one comitted to holding the offensive blueline
- The forwards were covering the defenses' position whenever they were involved in an offensive rush
- The forwards were pressuring the opposition at both ends of the ice forcing them to lose control in their own end and shutting down their offensive attacks by pressuring them on their heels and blocking their path to the net at the same time before they even get a chance to think about beating the goalie.
