Reminder of Compliance to COVID-19 Restrictions

As a result of the latest pause in hockey activities due to an increase COVID-19 numbers Minor Council would like to remind Associations and its members of the current protocols implemented by Chief Public Health Office (CPHO) for any of those members considering ice rentals.

  • Venues may permit private rentals for personal gatherings only (no teams or existing user groups)

  • Personal gatherings must follow current protocols which is immediate family members plus their steady 10 other people.

  • Participants 12 and older must show proof of vaccination.
The intent of CPHO is not to have te
ams split to make up the “steady 10” for practice

purposes. The “steady 10” are the same 10 individuals associated with the family unit.

Should COVID-19 tracing identify an ice time as being used as a practice, disciplinary action will be taken by Hockey PEI.

Public Health Restrictions Update

PEI Sport, Recreation and Facilities Update COVID‐19 Announcements from Tuesday Dec 14 Briefing

Please note the following changes and updates to the Covid‐19 protocols sporting groups, recreation activities and facilities must observe in the delivery of programs and activities. These updates come into play on Friday morning, December 17 at 8 am.

Sporting Groups, Teams and Recreational Activities

All of the current protocols must be observed with the following updates:

  •   No tournaments are allowed until further notice.

  •   Regularly scheduled games and activities among teams from PEI are permitted to continue with the

    following changes:

Organized sporting or recreational programs must be kept within 50 participants.
If the same team plays multiple games in a day as part of their regularly scheduled activities

(example curling, minor sport jamboree), the total number of direct participants cannot exceed 50. If there are four teams together, each with 15 participants and each team only plays two of the other three teams, the total number of direct participants is 45 and not 60.These activities must be part of already scheduled programs for sport and cannot be a tournament format.

Participants should only select one activity per day if they are involved in multiple programs (example: A person is involved in their school basketball team and are also a speed skater. That person should only attend one of those activities if both are scheduled on the same day)

 Teams are not permitted to travel to another province/territory for competition and teams from outside of PEI are not permitted to travel to PEI.

Sport and Recreational Facilities

All of the current protocols in place must be observed with the following updates:

  •   Organizers of activities to encourage the spectators to physically distance as much as possible based on the number of seats and size of the facility. All Vaxpass regulations are still in place.

  •   Organizers should be very vigilant in reminding participants and spectators to observe the masking protocols. Masks must be worn by participants until they are ready to do their activity and spectators the entire time they are in the facility. Mask should be properly fitted and cover the mouth and the nose.

  •   Any facilities that serve food should ensure that patrons eating the food are doing so at a seat (table or in the stands) and not doing so while standing against the glass or in an area where patrons are moving back and forth.

These updates will be revisited in early January

Let’s continue to do our part to ensure participants and spectators are safe and can continue to enjoy sport and recreational activities.

Public Health Restrictions Announced

Hi folks,

Just making you aware of the updated public health restrictions set out by Hockey PEI.

As an added layer of protection to reduce risk of importation and transmission, the CPHO has announced the following temporary measures effective 8:00 am on Friday, December 17 until early January as it pertains to Sport:

  • GAMES & PRACTICES: Regular practices and league games can occur involving a maximum of 50 participants per day (not including spectators). Example – If your O’Leary Maroons U11 team plays at home on Saturday morning and wants to play another game in Charlottetown against the Abbies that evening, they would not be permitted to play the second game against the Abbies.

  • TRAVEL: There will be no travel to or from PEI for people to participate in organized recreational activities, including sports, regardless of age. The Maritime Junior Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League are exempt from these travel restrictions, at this time.
    • Furthermore, everyone travelling to PEI will be asked to wait for two hours for their result of their point of entry test, before joining their family or going to a public place. Individuals arriving in PEI are strongly recommended to test on day 4 and to follow modified isolation during those first four days. This means not attending large gatherings, larger personal gatherings, or visiting those in long term care, community care or other congregate settings. They should also avoid visiting with immune compromised or elderly individuals until their day four test if possible.

  • MASKS – Masks will continue to be required in indoor public places, preferably a medical grade or three-layer mask worm properly over both the nose and mouth. Masks can be removed when actively eating or drinking and can no longer be removed when seated at organized gatherings like worship services or concerts. Masks should be worn in workplaces where physical distancing cannot be maintained and in any outdoor spaces when you are in close contact with people from outside your household.
    • Moving forward, Team Pictures are still permitted, however, masks must be worn at all times while doing so. They may post these pictures online should they follow these measures. Please ensure all teams are made aware of this.

  • TOURNAMENTSThere will be no tournaments of any sort, regardless of the age of participants in PEI.
    • Jamboree type events that consist of PEI-based teams only, and there are no more than 50 participants competing against each other on any particular day, can go ahead. This is permitting there is no Sunday play-offs and no awards. For example, if each team is only playing against one other team that day, then it can go ahead.

As always, everyone is encouraged to follow routine prevention measures:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water
  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow or a tissue
  • Get vaccinated
  • Wear a non-medical mask in indoor places
  • Stay home if you are not feeling well
  • Limit touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Keep your circle of contacts small
  • Physical distance - stay two meters (6 feet) apart
  • Don’t share items like drinking glasses and water bottles
  • Frequently clean surfaces like taps, doorknobs, and countertops
  • Visit a drop-in-clinic to be tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms
