Streaming Sports Network Canada Username Password Login Games Leagues Teams Venues Hockey Football Basketball Soccer Volleyball Blogs Direct from the CISHuskies get slice of world junior hockey December 15 2009The University of Saskatchewan Huskie mens hockey team will test themselves against some of the best under20 players in the world when the Huskies face Team Slovakia in a pretournament competition at Rutherford Rink on December 22 In 2009 at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa Team Slovakia shocked hockey fans placing fourth in the tournament defeating both Finland and the USA en route to the semifinals This is a great opportunity for our athletes to feel apart of the hockey showcase that will be in Saskatoon said Huskie head coach Dave Adolph We have some great players on our team and so does Slovakia so it will be a great game for both sides Stefan Mikes will return behind the bench for Team Slovakia for the third straight year at the tournament He will have seven returning players from the squad last year five forwards and two defencemen Slovakia will once again rely on secondround NHL draft picks Tomas Tatar and Richard Panik for offense in the tournament Tatar had 11 points in 2009 and Panik five Slovakia also has offensive weapons that have done big things in league play Forward Jakub Gasparovic has 19 points in 24 games and forward Libor Hudacek has 15 points Defensively Martin Stajnoch will return He has a plusminus rating of 10 in 24 regular season games In net Slovakia will feel the biggest loss Jaroslav Janus is no longer eligible for the tournament Janus became Slovakias hero stopping 44 shots against the USA last year made highlight reel saves throughout the tournament and was the allstar goaltender for the tournament Marek Ciliak and Matej Kristin have been sharing goaltender duties Both were in net for their country at the 2008 under18 World Championship Six Huskies sit in the Canada West top 20 scorers Captain Steven DaSilva leads his team with eight goals and 11 assists DaSilva is followed by Steven Gillen and Chris Durand with six goals and nine assists each rookie Kyle Bortis with four goals and 11 assists defenceman Chad Greenan with two goals and 12 assists and Kyle Ross with one goal and 13 helpers Veteran Huskie goalie Jeff Harvey has played in 11 games and sits with the thirdbest goals against average in the conference at 233 and a 925 save percentage Slovakia will be in the Saskatoon pool with Canada USA Latvia and Switzerland They open the tournament with a big test on December 26 in a game against the USA Puck drop is set for 7 pm at Rutherford Rink against Team Slovakia Tickets can be purchased in advanced at the PAC main office (PAC 222) during regular business hours (830 am 430 pm) This will be the second time the Huskies face a World Junior participant On December 15 10 Huskies will co...
