API Hockey Pros Streaming Sports Network Canada Username Password Login Games Leagues Teams Venues Hockey Football Basketball Soccer Volleyball Blogs The Messina filesCIS should take a page from NCAA March 26 2009After watching some great basketball south of the boarder over the weekend I wish the CIS would steal a page from the NCAA I know Canadian university basketball will never have 65 teams playing for the national championship but the CIS can take a real look at expanding to at least 16 It would make for a much more exciting national championship tournament in Canada Look at the Sweet 16 bracket in the NCAA Only two of the remaining teams are not seeded outside of the top four in their respective bracket If youre not watching the tournament youre probably thinking big deal But who sat there this weekend and wasnt on the edge of their seat as Pittsburgh the top ranked team in the East bracket saw scares from East Tennessee State (16) and Oklahoma State (8) How about the 10 upsets in the opening round In round two there were only two upsets but was it not fun to watch Texas gave Duke a run for their money In the end Duke pulled out the fivepoint victory winning 7469 Or how about having Michigan (10) hanging with Oklahoma (2) It was an exciting weekend of basketball Now we brace ourselves for what should be a great finish to the tournament I think the CIS would improve interest in their championship basketball tournament by expanding to 16 teams Sixteen is a very reasonable number as it would expand the tournament from just three to four rounds thus starting it only a day earlier I looked in the stands at Scotiabank Place a couple weekends back and saw the faithful of many schools followed their team to the mens Final 8 tournament The support that surprised me the most was the University of Calgary tons of their followers filled Scotiabank Place for the games they played The Dinos have a four hour plane ride to Ottawa You expand to 16 teams and you get more fans following their schools and thus more exposure Just look at how a team like Carleton has expanded their fan base and draw more attention to their program over the better part of the last decade The more teams the more eyes watching and thusly the more coverage the tournament gets It makes for a much more exciting tournament Why not give it a shot What would happen if you put more teams into the fold with a one game elimination playoff for four rounds Would we see more stunning upsets Does more schools involved and mean more people watching March Madness Canada style its worth a try 0 CommentsName Email address URL Comment If you enter anything in this field your comment will be treated as spam Video Clips%videobox% Photos%photobox% Home Advertise Contact Copyright 2008 All rights reserved...
