API Hockey Pros Streaming Sports Network Canada Username Password Login Games Leagues Teams Venues Hockey Football Basketball Soccer Volleyball Blogs Ridlington on the Atlantic WatchAUS football report card November 04 2009The regular season in AUS football is now history and fans in Atlantic Canada are gearing up for the playoffs and the run for national gridiron glory The 2009 season in my book wont go down as an epic one in terms of any one team shining through as spectacular It was a show in which some individual stars shone but teams played at a level that just got the job done Ill talk about individuals in a minute but lets go over club marks in the fall exams St Marys Huskies B The Huskies program is the gold standard of clubs in Atlantic Canada but the shine was a little clouded Always deep in talent the burgundy and white outscored their opponents 2 to 1 but didnt look daunting outside their conference in the Interlock Scoring and general offensive output were spread around a lot of players and I guess thats not a bad thing After a stumble out of the starting gate Halifaxs pride put together a string of 7 wins 96 of the teams 266 total points came off the toe of kicker punter Justin Palardy St Marys road will only get steeper if they get out of the conference St Francis Xavier XMen B The tools are in the toolbox in Antigonish but the chore is for the club to find consistency week in week out Coach Gary Waterman has been a positive beacon in giving his club direction Fans were excited by the Week 1 win by X over the everstrong St Marys Huskies A 5 win run and then a 2 game stumble put a shadow on the otherwise rising program Xavier should take the semifinal and make whats become their annual routine visit to SMU for the Loney Bowl If X can put it together for 60 minutes no one can take things for granted X split its Interlock action but might not show well against the big guys from other conferences in the late going Acadia Axemen C The woof in Wolfville was a whimper for Acadia this fall The Axemen fell short in most categories on the stat sheet as they wrestled with building back up to contention Close margins in some and great big gaps in others the Axemen were searching for answers that werent always showing up on the playing field Acadia crosses Nova Scotia to Antigonish for the semi and will have their work cut out to progress beyond that game Mount Allison Mounties D 2009 was a one step forward 2 steps back kind of season for the garnet and gold A young team focusing on basics the Mounties had a long hard grind against their opponents and a brutal schedule across the middle of their season SMU Laval and SMU ouch! Surprisingly the Mounties hung close to SFX but had learning experiences with some of Canadas more consistent football leading squads Its hard to think that the departure of 2 key players at QB and safety coul...
