API Hockey Pros Streaming Sports Network Canada Username Password Login Games Leagues Teams Venues Hockey Football Basketball Soccer Volleyball Blogs CIS sidelinesDissecting uOttawas basketball success March 05 2009Dont worry GeeGees fans the mens basketball team can still make it to the CIS Final 8 After a devastating loss to the Carleton Ravens in the OUA East championship game the GeeGees will tipoff against the Windsor Lancers in the OUA bronze medal game As the Ravens are hosting the CIS national championships they automatically earn a bye to the tournament This leaves two more spots open for OUA teams The winner of the bronze medal game will also advance to nationals held March 1315 at Scotiabank Place After getting off to a quick start against the Ravens in the OUA East finals it all went downhill in the second half as the Ravens soared to as much as a 20 point lead Star post Dax Dessureault recovering from a bout of pneumonia was less than stellar in the loss as was his team which struggled for much of the game to hit the net and to crack the Ravens D Carleton did not hold back as Aaron Doornekamp and his Ravens stole the show for the third time in 2009 The GeeGees lost three games in the regular season one to the University of Western Ontario Mustangs on the opening weekend of play and two to the Ravens late in the season The GeeGees have only lost to nationally ranked teams this season and here is why Key players such as Josh GibsonBascombe and Donnie Gibson have been solid in their shooting and Dessureault has come into his own this season and has also managed to nab the OUAs Ken Shields Award for achievements in basketball community involvement and academics The acquisition of Division I NCAA player Josh Wright from Syracuse has also helped Wright was once one of the most coveted players coming out of high school and the Utica NY native has not disappointed the GeeGees with flashy moves and a great shot A deep roster Their starting five is not permanent with players like Nemanja Baletic Jacob GibsonBascombe and Warren Ward able to hold their own coming off the bench And of course there is head Coach Dave DeAveiro who has previously been names OUA coach of the year (This years honours go to Ravens head coach Dave Smart) So when the GeeGees hit the court Saturday against Windsor (a team that they defeated 7775 early in the season) remember that the group has grown exponentially as a team this season holding down the second and then third ranking in the CIS for weeks on end and are hungry for a big W AS 0 CommentsName Email address URL Comment If you enter anything in this field your comment will be treated as spam Video Clips%videobox% Photos%photobox% Home Advertise Contact Copyright 2008 All rights reserved...
