Cape Fear Youth Hockey Association Cape Fear Youth Hockey Association Welcome Congratulations are in order!Congrats to the Jr Fireantz Squirts for making it to the Golden Puck championship game the Jr Fireantz Mites for making it to the consolation round and the Jr Fireantz Peewees and Bantams to the semifinals! Mondays games will determine how far the Peewees and Bantams will go Cheer on the teams! Go Jr Fireantz! For those of you that have asked about some of the new photos and videos weve run out space on this site Any new photos and videos will be added to our facebook page Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Matt Heath Nickcole Thomas and all the Jr Fireantz! And the Golden Pinnie goes to Matt Mclamb isnt the fastest skater on the Squirt team nor is he the most experienced However youll find few (if any) that will question the size of his heart From coaches to parents and players alike its the same story Matt just keeps trying to get better! Matts persistence was quite evident this weekend against the Charlotte Flames He made a switch from defense to offense flawlessly and scored his first two goals and had an assist in a 200 route of the Charlotte Flames With that Matt is awarded the Golden Pinnie for his tireless efforts! Excellent Job Matt!!! Squirts go LARGE against the Charlotte FlamesAlthough the Squirts travelled to Charlotte down 4 team members the scoreboard didnt reflect it The boys started off strong on both offense and defense and controlled the momentum against the much younger Charlotte Flames The first game started hard and fast just as the coaches requested All players participated in many different ways Dylan Skinner provided excellent netminding in his first travel game as a starting goalie final score 161 The second game provided much like the first with an increased amount of passing and shifting of positions Those normally assigned to defense were provided an opportunity to play forward The new additions made the most of their time out front with Erick Grigoleit had 2 goals and 5 assists and Matt McLamb had 2 goals and 1 assist Based upon Matts stellar play hes been awarded the much coveted Golden Pinnie NOTEABLES Alex Eichacker had 10 goals and 3 assists Noelan Parrent had an excellent day on defense with 3 goals and 4 assists Submitted by Jr Fireaants Hockey Mom Cathy Coots comes an article written by ESPNs John Buccigross This article identifies a very nice perspective on youth hockey Additionally a followup article with many very good comments from his readers can be found here Excellent reading!
