API Hockey Pros Womens Soccer Panthers defeated in penalty kicks Athletics Main Site University of Prince Edward Island UPEI Home Future Students Current Students Alumni & Friends Parents & Family Staff & Faculty Contacts SuckerfishHome Campus Recreation & Club Sports Athletics Facilities Schedule & Scores Athlete of the Week Contact Us Partnerships Box Office Recruitment Panther Sport TeamsMens Soccer Womens Soccer Womens Rugby Field Hockey Mens Basketball Womens Basketball Mens Hockey Womens Hockey Swimming Womens Soccer Panthers defeated in penalty kicksUPEI Womens SoccerHeadlines Roster Coaching Staff Schedule & Scores Standings & Stats History & Awards Community Page by John Harvey MUN St FX defeated the Women Panthers on penalty kicks for the AUS Championship on Sunday in Mount Pearl NFLD for the schools 1st league title since 1986 The XWomen scored on all four of their kicks after 120 minutes of soccer saw the teams deadlocked at 11 On a field 120 yards by 80 yards it came down to a game of inches UPEIs 2nd penalty kick was slightly over the net while Panther keeper Chanelle Roy got a hand on two of the XWomen shots but couldnt keep them out of the net UPEI with the wind at their back took control early and pinned the XWomen in their half for much of the 1st 40 minutes Cheslie McInnis continued her fine weekend play by opening the scoring about 10 minutes into the game finishing of a small scramble in the St FX box St FX responded soon after but were stymied on a fine defensive play by Mandy McKenna UPEI had several quality chances in the half with an Ashley Caulier steal deep in the X territory proving to be the best Fortunately for the Xwomen Cauliers shot was wide left The XWomen playing their 3rd game in less than 48 hours seemed to find their legs with 5 minutes left in the half This carried over to the 2nd half where the territorial advantage shifted from UPEI to STFX With few exceptions the XWomen went from being 2nd to most balls to being the 1st team to arrive at the ball The Panthers did enjoy a brief flurry near the middle of the half and had a glorious opportunity to put the game out of reach as McInnis was in alone on the keeper Her shot from 15 yards in the 65th minute sailed over the keeper and the crossbar With the half beginning to wind down the Panthers added a 4th fullback The strategy was not to be successful on this day as Sarah Mitchell ran unto a long ball from Meaghan Ramsden and found the back of the net in the 77th minute The XWomen continued to push forward and nearly added to their total 2 minutes later heading a cross over the Panther goalIn overtime it was the XWomen again who carried the play They came close knocking one off the crossbar 3 minutes into the 2nd overtime period Disappointed with the result coach Mike Redmond acknowledged the ST FX effort ...
